Why you need an inflatable lounger this summer

Forget bulky lawn chairs and hammocks that need trees in the right places. Free yourself from restrictions and get comfortable in your own inflatable lounger. This is the perfect way to enjoy the beach, the pool, the park, or your own backyard.
Call them air lounges, inflatable chairs or sofas, or by their brand names, Lamzac Hangout, AeroNest, Chillbo Baggins, ChillaX, or the Pouchcouch. They come in many different colors, but they all one thing in common—they cradle you as you relax alone on an air-filled cloud, or let you share your seat with a friend or two to watch the fireworks or enjoy the concert.

What is an inflatable lounger?

If you kayak or go boating, you probably know about drybags. They are waterproof sacks that protect your phone or other belongings when you’re out on the water. Their ends roll over a few times and seal shut to keep water out of the bags.
An inflatable lounger is the same thing as a drybag, only a lot bigger. They are plastic-lined ripstop nylon shells that you can fill with air, seal shut, and enjoy like a beanbag chair.

Where did air lounges come from?

It’s a little hard to determine who came up with the idea first. The Lamzac Hangout (aka Fatboy the Original Seat) was invented in the Netherlands, and so was the KAISR air lounge. The AeroNest from Hawaii appeared soon afterward, as did the Chillbo Baggins from Utah. Now there are lots more companies all selling similar products.
These genius products all popped up on the market within the past few years. Each company soon found that they could barely keep up with demand. Prices were a lot higher in the beginning than they are now. Now’s a great time to get yourself an inflatable lounge. In fact, get one for everyone in the family so you can all enjoy them together.

Are air loungers hard to set up?

You can watch many videos online that explain how to fill an air lounger. Methods range from swinging it around in a circle, to running with it, to flapping the mouth open and closed. You don’t need a fan or an air pump. It may take you a little bit pf practice to get the hang of it, but most people seem to manage just fine. Just try each method to see which one works best for you. It may depend on whether your lounger has one opening or two.

You don’t need a windy day or a large open space to inflate a lounger. You can even fill one with air indoors in a confined space by simply flapping the mouth open and shut. Watch this clip to see how it’s done.

Inflatable lounges and water

Some air lounges say they can be used on water like a pool float, some say they can’t. If that option is important to you, check the specs on the ones you research. Keep in mind that inflatable loungers may tip over in the water, giving you an unexpected bath. You’ll see what we mean if you lay on top of one on land. You can feel the way it gently rocks underneath you kind of like an air hammock. Some brands rock more than others.
On the other hand, you can keep an air lounge clean by simply wiping it down with a soft cloth, mild detergent, and warm water. And a little rain is just fine if you let the lounger dry out well before you pack it away in storage.

How can something filled with air be tough?

Practically every pool float and air mattress instruction pamphlet you read will tell you to protect them from rocky ground. So what makes an air lounge tough enough to be used on gravel and dirt and sand? After all, some of these can hold up to three adults at a time!
The answer is their ripstop nylon exterior. It’s made to resist abrasion. When you’re choosing an air bag lounger, check two things. See if the manufacturer offers a guarantee and see what customers are saying about that lounger’s durability. Some models hold air up to 4 to 5 hours before you need to refill them.

You know you want one

You will fall in love with inflatable air loungers if you have a chance to try one. They are fantastic for outdoor events because they are so lightweight and easy to transport. You can actually be comfortable lounging in them like you never could in a regular chair or on the ground for hours at a time.
As a rule, the average price of these inflatable couches has dropped considerably since they first appeared for sale. You can purchase two or three now for what you would have paid in the beginning.

Just think of all the places you’ll go

Take a moment to get excited for the possibilities. Air loungers can travel with you anywhere. Find a comfortable seat by the ocean or on the top of a mountain. Enjoy a concert in the park or sit around a campfire with friends. Pick your favorite inflatable lounge and start enjoying the outdoors even more than before.

Decided to go camping again with my daughter, my husband, Ali. Took on a great adventure trip to Cloudland Canyon State Park in northwestern Georgia. Brings back memories of cooking meals out over campfires, setting up campsites, and especially sweating out more than enough perspiration. Last night we roasted hot dogs over burning embers and made s’mores. Today planning on going to Rock Coty again in Chattanooga and then white water rafting on the Ocoee River. Here are some initials videos and photos.
